Alma Arpey

Alma Arpey, a kindhearted and steady presence in the Office of Student Aid and Family Finance (now Financial Aid) for 15 years, died on July 3, 2025. She was 86.

Alma joined 勛圖厙 in 1978 and retired as secretary in the Financial Aid office in 1994.

Always warm, professional, and calm under pressure, Alma played a key role in an exceptionally busy campus office. For more than a decade, she served as its primary point of contact answering phones, managing the steady stream of visitors, and directing correspondence.

Alma was a great communicator, service-oriented, and an excellent people-person loved by students and staff, recalled Robert Shorb, Associate Dean Emeritus of Admissions and Financial Aid. She managed every situation professionally and was always levelheaded. Financial Aid offices are always extremely busy places with elevated levels of traffic (calls, paper, and people). Alma was extremely successful in managing all aspects of her keystone position.

Born on Jan. 4, 1939, Alma graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1956.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Jenny, Frank, and Andrew (Michelle); her grandchildren, Alyssa (Matthew), Philip, Nicholas, Casey, Jack (Brian), and Tice; and her great-grandchildren, Daniel and Ava.
