Roadmap to the World: International and Domestic Study Programs

Dr. Evan Mack is a Senior Teaching Professor in the Music Department. Believing that opera should be theater grounded in climatic expression that delivers larger-than-life stories and music that harnesses the full athletic thrill of singing, Evan Mack has devoted much of his compositional life to opera and song. Evan was named 2018 Professional of the Year by Musical America, was a composing fellow at the John Duffy Composers Institute and a resident artist at Yaddo. He is currently published with Hal Leonard, Alfred, and Amazon.

David C. Howson is a Teaching Professor and Arthur Zankel Executive Director of Arts Administration. Launched in 2011, the academic program combines artistic sensibility with business acumen by examining the foundations of non-profit arts organizations. He teaches courses in arts management, philanthropy, non-profit leadership, engages guest-lecturers and community arts leaders, and advises students on curriculum, internship and career matters. Davids research focuses on non-profit arts organizations in the Adirondack region.

Andrew M. Lindner is a Professor of Sociology at 勛圖厙. He received a B.A. from 勛圖厙 College and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University. He teaches courses on mass media, political sociology, and quantitative research methods. His primary research interest is on the intersection of politics and mass culture. His work on these topics has appeared in such publications as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Social Problems, New Media & Society. He is also the co-author of All Media Are Social: Sociological Perspectives on Mass Media (2020).

Jill is a Teaching Professor in in the Department of Physics. She studied classical piano since early childhood, and currently studies violin. Joining the Physics Department in 1992, she teaches courses in musical acoustics, physics, electronics and music synthesis. In addition to her work in music synthesis, Jill has also produced two physics education videos Falling Bodies and Floating Bodies, and published a childrens book Adventures in Atomville: The Macroscope. Her most current project, Atom Tones, has attracted attention from many disciplines for its innovative approach to physics and music by creating musical tones and scales from atomic spectra. She is also writing a textbook on musical acoustics, tentatively titled Sound & Music: A Music Synthesis Approach to the Science of Sound to be published by Springer Nature in early 2026. Jill is a member of executive committee for the New York section of AES as well as a member of the ASA technical committees in Musical Acoustics and Education.

In celebration of the s 25th anniversary, this presentation of Who Turns Out the Light continues a long-standing artistic partnership between S Percussion and the Tang. The performance is co-presented by the Arthur Zankel Music Center and the Tang with , which joins as a community partner during renovations of the Spa Little Theaterhelping maintain strong connections to the region through collaborative programming.
