our application for the summer of 2026 will be available shortly.

Please read this entire page for instructions on how to apply before continuing on to the online application.

Institute Dates: June 27 – July 11, 2026

Application Review:  Application review begins March 15. Applicants who complete the application and audition process by the deadline will be notified of their acceptance on or before the first week in April. Applications will still be accepted until the program is filled, and applicants will be notified as soon as possible of their acceptance. Updates on closed instruments will be noted here as the program becomes enrolled.

Scholarship Requests: All scholarship requests must be submitted with the program application and preference will be given to requests submitted by March 15. 

Eligibility: Young musicians, who are at least 15 years of age and ability level ranges from intermediate to advanced (pre-professional) should prepare the following materials for the online application:

  • A $60 application fee
  • Video is preferred, but audio only will also be accepted. Links to YouTube, Google Drive, or DropBox videos are preferred. Please make sure sharing permissions are set for anyone with the link to view. Digital recording files will also be accepted.
  • A brief written description of your musical background (ie: all-state ensembles, other select ensembles, awards you may have received).
  • Contact information for a current or former teacher (phone number and e-mail address).  The option to upload a letter of recommendation will also be provided. 
  • A copy of your current transcript if you are a non-matriculated student applying for college credit.

Uploads should be in the following format and be no larger than 500MB each.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Once you begin your application, you must complete it in one session. The system will not allow edits after submission. If you close your browser before submitting, all information will be lost. Your application will time out after 20 minutes of inactivity.

Video Submission Guidelines:

  • Links to YouTube, Google Drive, or Dropbox videos are preferred.
  • Applicants may perform with either a live rhythm section or prerecorded rhythm tracks.
  • While we understand that access to equipment varies, please produce the highest-quality recording possible within your means.
  • Total audition video time may not exceed 15 minutes.
  • Your submission must include two contrasting jazz styles (e.g., swing and ballad).
  • You may upload up to three video files.
  • Recordings must be unedited and clearly labeled with your full name and a brief item description.

Audition Requirements:

For All Applicants (Except Bassists and Drummers):

  • Prepare two selections of contrasting styles.
    For each tune:
         Play the melody in its entirety.
         Perform at least on improvised chorus.
         Conclude with the head.

Bassists Only:

  • Prepare two selections of contrasting styles.
    For each tune:
         Play the melody in its entirety.
         Perform one full chorus of walking bass.
             An additional improvised chorus is optional but encouraged.
         Conclude with the head.
    Additional Requirement:
         Perform a walking bass line over two choruses of blues changes, tempo quarter note = 120.
         Acoustic bass only.

Drummers Only:

  • Prepare two selections of contrasting styles.
    For each selection:
         Comp for the head.
         Comp for at least one chorus as if supporting another soloist.
         Perform at least one improvised solo chorus.
    Additional Requirement:
      Submit an additional track demonstrating each of the following styles:
  • drums

International Students:
In accordance with U.S. Federal regulations, all non-U.S. Citizens must have a student visa to study in the United States. You may not attend ³Ô¹ÏÍø on a tourist visa. If you are an international student applying to the summer program please view International Student Visa Info.
